Service
Engineered Hardwood Installation
Installing engineered flooring: a real wood wear layer bonded over a plywood or composite core, nailed, glued or floated depending on the product.
Engineered hardwood has a hardwood top layer over a stable core. It moves less with humidity than solid wood and some products are rated for installation over concrete.
How many times it can be sanded depends on the wear layer thickness. Thin wear layers may not be sandable at all, which affects long-term refinishing options.
Also known as: engineered wood flooring, floating hardwood floor, engineered flooring installation.
Typical scope
- Subfloor flatness and moisture checks
- Nail-down, glue-down or floating installation per manufacturer
- Underlayment or moisture barrier where required
- Trim, transitions and thresholds
Usually not included
- Staircase work is not part of this service. You can flag it as a separate related request.
- Structural subfloor or joist repair, moisture remediation and pest damage repair are outside a flooring quote unless the contractor says otherwise.
Material and condition considerations
- Wear layer thickness determines future refinishing options.
- Installation method must follow the manufacturer's instructions to keep the product warranty valid. Warranties come from manufacturers or contractors, not from this site.
- Floating floors can sound and feel different underfoot than nailed floors.
What affects the price
No prices are published here. Independent contractors quote after seeing the floor. These factors usually drive the quote:
- Product selected and wear layer thickness
- Installation method
- Subfloor preparation or leveling
- Removal of existing flooring
- Layout complexity
How to prepare
- Share the product name or sample if you have one.
- Note whether rooms are over a slab, crawlspace or basement.
- Clear rooms and plan for appliance moves.

Frequently asked questions
Can engineered hardwood be refinished?
Sometimes. It depends on the wear layer thickness and how it was made. Some engineered floors can be sanded once or more, while thin wear layers may only accept a recoat.
